YOU'RE FIRED!!!!!

Well, it's only Wednesday and already I'm whipped...and not in the good way. It's been a rough week. It all started on Monday when one of my employees called in "sick". This employee was already teetering on the edge, but not for the quality of his work. My plan was to convince my boss to let me counsel him in the err of his ways, but as luck would have it she is an EXTREME rule follower and would not hear of it. So, I called this employee into the office and gave him the bad news. Wouldn't you know it, he started bawling. Made me really uncomfortable. I walked him back to his work station to collect his personal belongings, recovered his security badge and keys and was ready to escort him through security to the parking lot. He took me by surprise when he asked me if he could tell everybody goodbye. What was I supposed to do? Normally when a person gets fired they are extremely anxious to get the hell outta Dodge. Before leaving he turned to my boss and gave her, another supervisor and myself a hug and said that he was going to miss us. Is that not weird? Aren't people supposed to be angry when they get fired? Spo, if you read this give me your thoughts. I was totally confused by his actions. Anyway, since his unfortunate departure my department has been absolutely swamped. Did I mention that I have two other employees out on medical leave? I can't wait for the weekend. Hope all is hunky dorey with you all.

From Jury Duty to Superman

Ah jury duty, isn't it grand? Today I had jury duty. For those of you who have not experienced the process of jury duty, it can be quite tiresome. I reported to the central jury room along with several hundred other citizens. Finally at about 9am a movie was started that explained the process of jury selection. I think the film was made for first graders. After the film was over we were greeted by a civil servant who proceeded to reiterate everything we had just seen in the film. We were told that someone would be in shortly to begin assigning us to courtrooms. Finally around 11am, after spending the morning in a room that must have been 50 degrees, another CS appeared and assigned all potential jurors to courtrooms....with the exception of myself and about 12 to 14 others. Well, as it turned out our cards had been misplaced so we were dismissed at 11:15. Normally I would have done the "right" thing and gone to work for the afternoon. Not today. The weather has been so cold, wet and nasty that I just decided to spend the afternoon on the sofa watching mindless movies. I watched American Pie 2 and American Wedding.

This evening I decided to view something of a more mature nature. If you've never seen Smallville, you need to tune in at least once to check out Tom Welling aka Superman in his high school/college years. I have provided a photograph of Tom for your viewing pleasure. Yes, he is a couple of years my junior, but I like 'em younger now and then.

Little gossamer Angel

I know this is a bit late, but what can I say....
This is a photo of the little gold angel that has adorned the top of mom and dads Christmas tree for as long as I can remember. One Christmas a few years ago mom tried to pull a slick one and replace THE angel with a new one, well that did not go well with my older sister and I. Needless to say, the new angel went back to the stock room in whatever store mom bought it and "Goldie" is still reigning supreme.

Not much has been happening this year. Just going to work, coming home. We might be spending some time in Canada (Nova Scotia - hope the spelling is right) for Canada Day and the 4th of July. That will be a wonderful break from the heat we will be having here in Big D. Not any major trips planned this year, just small jaunts. March we will be going to Alabama to visit my nieces campus, May will take us to West Texas for my nephews' high school graduation, then it's off to Missouri to visit Grandma and finally we will be accompanying some friends to Arkansas to visit the Clinton Presidential Library. Those are the only planned trips so far, I'm sure there will be more.

Horrible news! It's not been announced yet, but it looks like SMU will be getting the george w library. My good friend is a dean at SMU and told me they have already bought property to construct the library. I could just vomit. Also, rumor has it that george is scoping out a place to reside in Highland Park, Tx which is a "township" in the middle of Dallas and across the street from yours truly. What is this world coming to???? Gloom, doom and despair!
