Heavy Flashback to the 80's

Tonight I decided to go to Blockbuster to rent a movie. While perusing the shelves I spotted a movie that I hadn't even thought about in 20 years or so. The movie I'm referring to is An Early Frost starring Aiden Quinn, Gena Rowlands, Ben Gazzara, Sylvia Sidney, John Glover, Terry O'Quinn and Bill Paxton. The screenplay was written by Ron Cowen and Daniel Lipman (creators and producers of Showtime's "Queer As Folk"). It was nominated for 14 Emmys and won 4. In 1985 this made for TV movie was one of the first shows that introduced the country to the reality of AIDS. It reminded me of a time when AIDS was a death sentence of 6 months to a year, and that was the lucky ones. I think back to the mid eighties and am astonished at the number of friends I lost to this horrible disease. Yes, this is a very heavy subject but the writers did an outstanding job portraying the truths and prejudices surrounding AIDS in the eighties and sadly to some extent still today. I recommend seeing this movie, yes it is a tear jerker but I also think of it as a reminder of how far we have come with respect to extending and improving the quality of peoples lives who are living with AIDS. That said, I think I am going to watch a little TV and then hit the sack (1:25am Sunday).

I Love My Dog, I Love My Dog......

It's 6am on Saturday morning. Why am I up so early you ask? No, I do not have to go to work we are closed on Saturdays. Am I sick? No, well not physically anyway. My little monster decided to wake me up at this ungodly hour to go outside. I live in a condo so I have to walk my dog. Coco woke me up with his stretching, yawning and grunting so I was pretending to be asleep thinking that he would settle down and go back to sleep. Didn't work. Instead he bounces over to within a half an inch from my face and just stares at me. I can feel his breath on my face. I thought, "I'll just lay here real still like and he will get tired of staring at me and go lay back down". You know...there are quite a few people that walk their dogs at 6am on Saturday mornings. I wonder if they all have to go to work or maybe they just have spoiled little monters like mine. Have a great weekend.

3D Improved

Went to see another movie last night. If you are into animation, you will like Monster House. I know, I know you're probably thinking I'm too old to be watching cartoons and you are probably right. However, this one was in digital 3D. 3D has been greatly improved over the years. I've been told that back in the olden days the 3D effect was created by overlaying colors and that you had to wear glasses that had one blue lens and one red lens. Well not anymore. These glasses had kind of a gray lens and were quite fashionable...NOT. I looked like Buddy Holly. At any rate the 3D effect was awesome and I recommend seeing this show if you can find a theater offering it in 3D. The movie had a cute story and was a lot of mindless fun.

Any good movie recommendations?

Movie Revue

Today started out like any other typical Saturday morning. Got up at 7am to walk, feed and pill the dog. After that we walked over to our friends condo and then it was off to "Bagels". Part of our weekend routine is to start off at Einsteins with coffee and bagels. After that we went to see a movie.....the much hyped Snakes on a Plane. What in the hell was Samuel L. Jackson thinking when he agreed to star in this flick? OMG! It was almost the worst movie I have seen in a very long time, next to PULSE (that was last weekends bomb). This movie made me laugh from pure disbelief. It was totally ridiculous from the very beginning when the snakes where hiding in the lavatory and latched on to this girls nipple and this other guys' "pee-pee". Yes they showed the nipple, no they didn't show the "pee-pee". If you have a snake phobia I would not recommend this movie. If you like silly movies and don't mind snakes, I say catch a matinee or wait until it is available to rent. Have a great weekend.

Me and the Kids

I was going through a bunch of stuff on my pc and came across this photo. That's me (in the middle) with Coco and the late Ms. Puddin. Coco is the brown one and Ms. P is the little snowball. We lost Ms. P in April to kidney failure and general old age - 16 years. She was the first pet I have ever had to have "put down". It was a very difficult thing to do, but the right thing. I owe my friend Steve a load of thanks for preparing me for the process. I always imagined that it was this long process of giving her the medication and she would get drowsy and eventually go to sleep...for ever. It was nothing like that. The doc was still administering the injection and she was gone. It took less than 2 seconds, literally. I sure miss my little girl. Both kids were rescue dogs. Puddin came from a broken home and Coco was rescued from the animal shelter. If you are ever in the market for a pet, please check your local animal shelter and save a life. You will get unconditional love in return.

Two and a Half Weeks.....

That snake is gonna scare you to death when you find it, and just before you draw your last breath you're going to hear the far away chuckle of auntie Felicia. Maybe you should just stop looking for it and buy a new one. I can't wait for our trip!!!!! Not much to report on this end. So I guess I will catch you later.

See you next time.

Welcome back....

Wow! I haven't been here in awhile. Whew, it's full of cobb webs and dust. Did you read my last posting.......I shall say no more. YES I WILL! THE DAMN BOOK ISN'T FINISHED! I feel much better now. I'm starting to get excited about my trip to Vegas next month, not so much because I'm going, but because I'm going with three of my best buds. I know that Lee, Steve, Phillip and I will have a wonderful time. I just wonder which one of them will be brave enough to go on the rides at the top of the Stratosphere with me. Not much else to blog about. Take care.

See you next time.
